MEDICARE ALERT: As of January 1, 2010 a $1,860 limit on outpatient rehabilitation services has been placed on Medicare beneficiaries. The "Medicare Cap", as it is more commonly known, has been in place in previous years as well, but has typically been repealed with the help of legislation in Congress. This year, however, no legislation has yet been passed to repeal this cap. It is necessary that Congress acts immediately to prevent seniors from exceeding this therapy cap for outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology services. Once the cap has been reached, patients that require further treatment are then responsible for 100% of the costs of their care. Failure to remedy this situation could negatively affect those who are facing multiple injuries within the same year or those who face long-term disease processes. Please contact our Senators and Congressman to encourage them to repeal this legislation! www.apta.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Patient_Action_Center2&Template=/CM/HTMLDisplay.cfm&ContentID=66619
